Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of July 31, 2014.

Key Points

  • Vector-borne diseases: Since the start of enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue, 84 reports of clinically suggestive cases of either disease have been received. Of these, 40 were confirmed as chikungunya and 7 as dengue. All of these cases contracted the disease while traveling in an endemic area (imported cases). To date, no locally acquired cases have been reported in our region.

  • Hospital and medical activity in the region: as observed every year at this time, visits to emergency departments are on the rise, as is the proportion of patients not usually residing in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Activity by SOS Médecins, although decreasing, remains higher than in previous years during comparable periods. The main diagnoses involve nasopharyngitis and tonsillitis.
