To confirm the role of oysters from the Thau Lagoon in a number of outbreaks of foodborne illness, an epidemiological investigation was conducted into one such outbreak that occurred among staff at an administrative facility in Paris. This investigation was supplemented by a survey and analysis of other foodborne illness outbreaks attributed to oyster consumption reported in December 2002 and January 2003 in other French departments.
