Vaccination in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Public Health Bulletin, April 2023.

Key Points

  • High vaccination coverage among infants subject to the mandatory vaccination requirements in effect since 2018:

    • Over 90% for vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and hepatitis B, as well as vaccines against pneumococcus and meningococcus C.

    • Nearly 85% for the second dose of the vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella.

  • Vaccination coverage of at least one dose by 8 months of age against meningococcal B: 51%.

  • Increase in vaccination coverage among children and adolescents not subject to mandatory vaccination:

    • between a 2- and 5-point increase between 2021 and 2022 for meningococcal C vaccination, but very insufficient catch-up among adolescents with coverage below 50%;

    • nearly 52% for the first dose of the HPV vaccine among 15-year-old girls: a 2-point increase between 2021 and 2022, representing rising coverage that is beginning to stabilize. While this coverage is higher than that observed in France, it remains insufficient to interrupt the circulation of the virus.

  • Regional disparities within the region, with lower coverage in rural departments.

  • Higher vaccination uptake in the general population: 83.4% in 2021 compared to 75.0% in 2016.

  • Low vaccination coverage against HPV infections among young boys: 13% for the first dose at age 15.

  • Insufficient influenza vaccination coverage among people with risk factors (<75%).
