Key Points
Mortality: Mortality recorded at the civil registry offices of sentinel municipalities (all ages and those aged 75 and older) is close to the expected values for this time of year.
Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: activity remains stable among children under 1 year of age, with figures close to those expected for this period; activity is slightly higher among those aged 75 and older, with figures above expected levels.
Virology: Among the 13 samples positive for respiratory viruses analyzed by the Bordeaux University Hospital laboratory, 10 were positive for rhinovirus and 2 for parainfluenza. Among the 39 respiratory virus-positive samples analyzed by the Poitiers University Hospital laboratory, 21 were positive for rhinovirus/enterovirus and 13 for parainfluenza.
Gastroenteritis: In the ALPC region and across France, activity remains low (below expected levels for this time of year) and continues to decline.
Chickenpox: Chickenpox activity reported to SOS Médecins continues to rise, with a proportion of cases above the alert threshold. The same trend is observed at the sub-regional level.
Allergies: Consultations for allergies are declining but remain at high levels according to SOS Médecins. Forecasts indicate a high to very high pollen allergy risk for grass pollens and a low risk for other pollens in the region.
Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika – Enhanced Surveillance in Aquitaine as of June 23, 2016: Since May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in the departments of the former Aquitaine region colonized by Aedes albopictus, 48 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 5 imported cases of dengue and 16 imported cases of Zika have been confirmed. One locally acquired case of Zika has been identified in Lot-et-Garonne, likely linked to sexual transmission.
Heat-related illnesses: During week 24, there was no unusual increase in indicators. Météo-France has issued a yellow heat wave alert for the Landes department for June 22, when temperatures are expected to reach 35 to 37 degrees.
