Health Surveillance in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of September 20, 2017.
Key Points
Mortality: Mortality during week 36 (September 4–10, 2017) is close to expected levels for this period across all age groups. The trend is the same at the national level.
Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency department activity among people aged 75 and older and among children under 1 year of age is close to expected levels.
Virology: The number of positive respiratory virus samples from the laboratories at the Bordeaux, Poitiers, and Limoges university hospitals increased in week 36 (32 positive samples). At the Poitiers and Bordeaux university hospitals, the majority were rhinovirus/enterovirus (17 and 8 samples, respectively). No samples tested positive at the Limoges university hospital.
Notifiable Diseases (ND): Decrease in the number of reported hepatitis A cases in weeks 35 and 36 (provisional data). Clustered cases of measles in Gironde since week 35.
Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika – Enhanced surveillance in Nouvelle-Aquitaine: since May 1, when enhanced surveillance began in the region’s departments colonized by Aedes albopictus (depts. 24, 33, 40, 47, and 64), 61 suspected cases have been reported. In total, 8 cases of dengue and 4 imported cases of Zika have been confirmed.
Asthma: A sharp increase in activity among children under 15 in connection with the start of the school year. In week 37, asthma activity doubled compared to week 36, accounting for 4.6% (137 visits vs. 60 in week 36) and 6.1% (313 visits vs. 141 in week 35) of total activity at SOS Médecins and the Oscour® network, respectively, among children under 15.
