Notice Regarding the Protocol for Identifying and Enrolling Staff at the Caen University Hospital (Côte de Nacre Campus) Who Are Professionally Exposed to Asbestos Dust or May Have Been Exposed
The Caen University Hospital (CHU) is a public healthcare facility comprising five sites, including the Côte de Nacre Hospital (the "tour-galette" building), which opened in 1975. During the construction of the tower-galette, asbestos was used on every floor of the building for its resistance to heat, fire, electrical and chemical damage, as well as for its insulating properties. In this context, and in accordance with current regulations (Public Health Code and Labor Code) and the recommendations of the High Authority for Health (HAS), a systematic medical monitoring program has been implemented by the University Hospital’s Occupational Health Service (SST) for staff currently or previously exposed to high or moderate levels of occupational asbestos dust: post-exposure medical follow-up for active employees (SPE) or post-occupational follow-up for retired staff (SPP). However, the Cire has identified situations in which the procedures for identifying and enrolling individuals in SPE or SPP should be formalized and systematized through the drafting of a protocol to ensure that this system is not situation-dependent and to guarantee its long-term viability.
