Health Surveillance in Normandy. Bulletin of September 1, 2025.
Key Points
Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika
Since the launch of enhanced surveillance on May 1, 81 cases of arboviral diseases, all imported, have been reported in Normandy: 49 cases of dengue and 32 cases of chikungunya. To date, no locally acquired cases have been reported in the region.
COVID-19
The number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 is increasing in the region but remains at a low level. The number of SOS Médecins calls is low and stable. Circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is also low, according to measurements from our network of partner laboratories and in wastewater.
Extreme heat, heat wave
As there were no heat waves in Normandy in August, no alerts were issued by Météo-France. This situation resulted in a limited number of emergency room visits for the iCanicule health indicator during the month compared to June-July (n = 238). Monitoring will end on September 15, and a report will be released shortly.
Drownings
As of August 22, 34 drowning incidents, including 11 deaths, were recorded in Normandy (during the summer of 2024, 28 drowning incidents, including 10 deaths, were recorded). Deaths along the northwest coast (Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Brittany) occurred primarily at sea (66%). Monitoring will end on September 30, and a report will be issued.
