Health Surveillance of Bronchiolitis in Upper and Lower Normandy. Update as of December 19, 2013.

National Situation

In week 51 of 2013, the InVS national update (dated 12/17/13) showed that the number of cases of bronchiolitis in infants admitted to emergency departments in metropolitan France participating in the OSCOUR® network continued to rise in metropolitan France (Figure 1), although the epidemic peak had been passed in week 49 in certain regions, notably the Île-de-France region. The trend over time in the number of visits is similar to what has been observed during recent epidemic seasons, with the number of visits to hospital emergency departments being lower this season.According to data from the Grog network (week 2013-50), the number of confirmed cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection continued to rise in hospitals. Activity among sentinel general practitioners remained stable in weeks 49 and 50 in the Basse-Normandie and Haute-Normandie regions for bronchiolitis in infants under 2 years of age, while activity among sentinel pediatricians was on the rise across all regions of France during the same period.
