Health Monitoring in Normandy. Update as of November 29, 2023.

Key points

Bronchiolitis

  • The current bronchiolitis outbreak in Normandy has seen a marked resurgence in urban areas (SOS Médecins) and hospitals (emergency departments). It appears to be lasting longer than the one observed last year. However, indicator levels were still lower than those observed at last year’s peak.

  • The RSV positivity rate among respiratory isolates analyzed in the laboratory was also on the rise.

SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

  • After a period of decline, activity indicators for Covid-19 increased in community settings (SOS Médecins) or stabilized in hospitals (emergency departments). The number of positive laboratory test results also remained stable over the past two weeks.

Pneumonia

  • Indicators of emergency department visits and consultations have been rising for children under 15 for several weeks. Levels were higher than those observed over the past two years. Additionally, an increase in cases of Mycoplasma pneumoniae respiratory infections has been observed in France (see national news).

Influenza

  • In Normandy, few cases of the influenza virus have been detected by hospital laboratories.

Asthma

  • Emergency department activity was rising sharply, likely due to various outbreaks of acute respiratory infections (ARI).

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)

  • Activity in private practice (SOS Médecins) decreased and was at levels typically observed. Activity in hospitals (emergency departments) was stable and at a low level.
