Health Monitoring in Normandy. Bulletin of August 5, 2025.
Key Points
Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika
Since the launch of enhanced surveillance on May 1, 71 cases of arboviral diseases have been reported in Normandy, all of imported origin: 43 cases of dengue and 28 cases of chikungunya. To date, no locally acquired cases have been reported in the region.
Heat and Health
The most recent heat wave in Normandy occurred between late June and early July 2025 (yellow alert in the Eure and Orne departments). This heat wave resulted in increased activity in hospitals and urban areas, as indicated by the iCanicule indicator. Since then, heat-related activity has remained at moderate levels in the region.
Drownings
Normandy has seen a marked increase in the number of drownings and deaths: 22 drownings, including 10 deaths, in 2025, compared to 14 drownings, including 5 deaths, in 2024. The locations of deaths along the northwest coast (Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Brittany) are:
61% at sea
24% in rivers or bodies of water
15% in swimming pools
Measles
Five clustered cases of measles were reported in Orne at the end of July. Measles continues to circulate in France; every effort must be made to improve vaccination coverage among the population (primary vaccination and catch-up vaccination).
