Cases of leptospirosis in Normandy. 2024 Report.
Key Points
Since August 17, 2023, leptospirosis has been officially included on the list of reportable diseases (Official Journal).
In 2024, 26 cases were reported among residents of Normandy, including 20 confirmed cases and 6 probable cases.
The cases were primarily men, with a median age of 60.
The Manche department is the most affected in Normandy, with 11 reported cases, representing an incidence rate of 2.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The most frequently reported risk exposure was contact with an animal, primarily with rodents (n=13).
Nearly all cases were hospitalized, with a significant proportion requiring admission to the intensive care unit. This underscores the potential severity of this zoonosis. No deaths were reported in Normandy in 2024.
Leptospirosis cases are reported to the ARS within a median of 16 days; awareness campaigns will be implemented to remind healthcare professionals of the importance of considering a diagnosis of leptospirosis and promptly reporting cases.
