Health Surveillance in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of January 30, 2025.

Key Points

Flu-like Illnesses and Acute Respiratory Infections

  • In hospitals, the total number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations following an emergency room visit was on the rise. The increase in the number of hospitalizations following an emergency room visit was linked to the rise in hospitalizations among those aged 15 and older (+15%). The distribution of influenza virus types and subtypes has not undergone any major changes in recent weeks.

  • In private practice, the number of patients seeking care continued to rise within the SOS Médecin association and the Sentinelles network. However, it is worth noting a slower increase among those under 15 years of age (+6% in Week 4 vs. +47% in Week 3) and an increase in the number of consultations among those over 15 years of age in Week 4, whereas it had been declining in Week 3.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • A moderate increase in the number of SOS Médecins cases for acute gastroenteritis across all age groups (rising from 776 cases in W03 to 830 in W04) was observed. Nevertheless, among those under 15, the trend was toward stabilization.

  • An increase in emergency department visits across all age groups (rising from 1,163 visits in W03 to 1,299 in W04) was noted, along with a sharp rise in visits followed by hospitalization across all age groups (+43.5%).

  • Among those under 15 years of age, the number of emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis was increasing, and hospitalizations related to this condition were rising sharply.

  • The incidence rate for acute diarrhea consultations among sentinel physicians decreased compared to the previous week, dropping from 81 to 75 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins for acute gastroenteritis was stable compared to the previous week and similar to trends in 2024.

COVID-19

  • The number of SOS Médecins calls for suspected COVID-19 increased, particularly among those aged 15–44. However, case numbers remained low across all age groups.

  • The number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 decreased across all age groups, particularly among children under 15.

  • The number of acute respiratory infection (ARI) episodes with a COVID-19 diagnosis reported by long-term care facilities (primarily nursing homes) remained low since late 2024 (unconsolidated S04 data). Most episodes reported in recent weeks involved the influenza virus.

  • The level of SARS-CoV-2 detection in wastewater continued to decline in S04.
