Key points

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Significant decline in emergency room visits and hospitalizations due to acute gastroenteritis across all age groups and among children under 15;

  • Significant decrease in the number of acute gastroenteritis cases treated by SOS Médecins across all age groups.

  • Stabilization of the incidence rate for acute diarrhea consultations among sentinel physicians.

  • In S17, activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins for acute gastroenteritis has dropped to a moderate level and is approaching that observed during the same period in the years 2022–2024.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: The number of cases for suspected COVID-19 increased across all age groups, returning to levels observed before the school holidays. Case numbers remained low.

  • Emergency department visits: The number of visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • Clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in long-term care facilities: The number of ARI clusters with a COVID-19 diagnosis reported by long-term care facilities (primarily nursing homes) remained low since late 2024. However, an increase was observed starting in Week 11. In Week 15, 9 ARI clusters with a COVID-19 diagnosis were reported.

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: Detection levels in wastewater continued to rise in Week 17, though there was significant variability in virological indicators in wastewater depending on the treatment plant.

Asthma

  • A sharp decline in the number of emergency room visits for asthma in Week 17 compared to Week 16 among those aged 15 and older and those aged 2–14. The number of visits followed by hospitalization increased for those aged 15 and older but decreased among those aged 2–14. The rate of emergency department visits for asthma returned to the levels observed during the same period in the two previous years.

  • There was also a sharp decline in the number of asthma-related procedures at SOS Médecins for those over 15 and for children aged 2–14. The proportion of asthma-related activity returned to the levels observed during the same period in the two preceding years.
