COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of November 5, 2020
Key Points
Intense circulation of the virus throughout the region and significant impact on the healthcare system.
In Week 44 (October 26–November 1, 2020), the increase in available indicators for monitoring the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic continued, marking a progression of the epidemic across the entire region.
The number of new hospitalizations reported in the region totaled 3,490 in Week 44, an increase of 22% compared to the previous week (Week 43). Although this increase is half as rapid as the 46% rise observed between Weeks 42 and 43, it remains highly concerning. The coming weeks will be decisive in determining the impact of the epidemic on the healthcare system.
As of November 4, 2020, 80% of hospitalized patients were over the age of 60. In intensive care, continuous care, and critical care units, this figure stands at 72%. In Seine-Saint-Denis and Val d’Oise, COVID-19 cases account for over 10% of emergency department activity.
In social and medical-social facilities for the elderly, the number of confirmed cases among residents continues to rise, reaching 1,183 new cases in week 44, as does the number of confirmed cases among staff, which stands at 662 new cases.
