COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of March 17, 2022
Key Points
In Week 10 in Île-de-France, the downward trend in virological indicators came to a halt, with an overall increase in these indicators across the region. Hospital indicators continued to decline, though less markedly in Week 10. The public health situation therefore remained uncertain. The rise in virological indicators from already high levels calls for continued vigilance.
The crude incidence rate stood at 414 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and increased for the first time after 8 consecutive weeks of decline. The testing rate also increased after 8 consecutive weeks of decline. The positivity rate rose again to reach 14.2%.
The BA.2 sublineage of the Omicron variant has become the dominant strain in Île-de-France.
SI-VIC data continued to show a decline in new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions, and COVID-19-related hospital deaths, though the decline was less pronounced than in previous weeks.
Vaccination coverage is increasing slowly in the region.
Given the high and rising viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
