COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of January 6, 2022
Key Points
In week 52 in Île-de-France, virological and hospital indicators continued to rise sharply, indicating very intense circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Île-de-France.
The crude incidence rate continued to rise sharply: it stood at 2,810 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the highest value recorded in the region since the start of the epidemic. This increase was observed across all age groups, particularly among those aged 15–44. The positivity rate climbed to 20.5%, exceeding the value recorded during the peak of the second wave, and the testing rate reached its highest level ever.
The Omicron variant (21K, B.1.1.529), which has been the dominant strain in Île-de-France since Week 51, continued to spread rapidly in the region.
SI-VIC data again showed an increase in new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions, and new deaths reported in hospitals.
Vaccination coverage with at least one dose was 74.1%, 73.0% for the full course, and 34.5% for the booster dose.
Given the high and rapidly rising viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
