COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of December 9, 2021

Key Points

  • The crude incidence rate rose for the fifth consecutive week, reaching 446 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (vs. 310 per 100,000 in Week 47). This increase was observed across all departments in the Île-de-France region and in all age groups. Paris had the highest incidence rate among all departments in the Île-de-France region, at 603 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Positivity rates and testing rates showed increases across all departments in the Île-de-France region.

  • The positivity rate among symptomatic individuals increased due to intense viral circulation.

  • SI-VIC data showed an increase in new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions, and new deaths reported in hospitals.

  • An uptick in reported COVID-19 cases in long-term care facilities (ESMS) had been observed since Week 46, but the situation remained, at this stage, generally favorable (high vaccination coverage in nursing homes).

  • Vaccination coverage with at least one dose was 73.3%, and 72.2% for the full vaccination regimen (data by place of residence). The rate of increase in vaccination coverage remained low.

Given the high and rapidly rising viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
