COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of December 30, 2021

Key Points

In week 51 in Île-de-France, virological indicators continued to rise, indicating very intense circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Île-de-France.

  • The crude incidence rate continued to rise sharply: it stood at 1,295 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the highest value recorded in the region since the start of the epidemic. This increase was observed across all departments in the Île-de-France region and in all age groups, particularly among those aged 15–29 and 30–44. Paris had the highest incidence rate and the steepest rise among all departments in the Île-de-France region, at 2,008 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • Positivity rates and testing rates continued to rise in all departments.

  • The Omicron variant (21K, B.1.1.529) became the dominant strain in Île-de-France and continued to spread rapidly throughout the region.

  • SI-VIC data showed an increase in new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions, and new deaths reported in hospitals.

  • Vaccination coverage with at least one dose was 74.0%, 72.9% for the full course, and 31.5% for the booster dose.

Given the high and rapidly rising viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
