COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of December 2, 2021
Key Points
In week 47 in Île-de-France, virological and hospital indicators showed an increase once again, confirming the sharp rise in SARS-CoV-2 circulation observed in previous weeks.
The crude incidence rate among residents of Île-de-France rose for the fourth consecutive week, reaching 310 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (vs. 190 per 100,000 in Week 46). This increase was observed across all departments in Île-de-France and in all age groups. Paris had the highest incidence rate among all Île-de-France departments, at 446 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The positivity rate among symptomatic individuals remained high (18.4%) due to intense viral circulation.
Positivity rates and testing rates showed increases across all departments in the Île-de-France region and in all age groups.
SI-VIC data showed an increase in new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions, and new deaths reported in hospitals. It should be noted that data consolidation delays and the low number of deaths at this stage lead to potentially significant weekly fluctuations.
An uptick in reported COVID-19 cases in long-term care facilities (ESMS) was observed in week 47, but the situation remained generally favorable at this stage (high vaccination coverage in ESMS).
Vaccination coverage with at least one dose was 76.5%, and 74.2% for the full vaccination series. The rate of increase in vaccination coverage remained low.
Given the high and rapidly increasing viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with a high level of adherence to other preventive measures.
