Public Health Surveillance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy. Epidemiological Update, January 8, 2015.
Key points
Bronchiolitis Surveillance
In mainland France, epidemiological data show that the daily number of emergency room visits for bronchiolitis has stabilized since mid-December.
In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, calls to SOS Médecins for bronchiolitis have been decreasing over the past two weeks, falling back below the regional epidemic threshold. Conversely, hospital indicators and calls to the Bronchiolitis Network 59 remain stable at a high level.
In Picardy, the proportion of SOS Médecins visits for bronchiolitis remains in line with expectations, but the number of isolated RSV cases among hospitalized patients continues to rise, indicating the intensity of respiratory syncytial virus circulation in the region.
Surveillance of influenza-like illnesses
In mainland France, epidemiological and virological indicators remain stable. The epidemic threshold, as defined by the Sentinelles network, has not been reached.
In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions, indicators are generally on the rise, and regional epidemic thresholds have been exceeded for the third consecutive week.
Surveillance of severe influenza cases
In mainland France, 59 severe cases of influenza have been reported this season, including 12 in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and none in Picardy.
Surveillance of acute gastroenteritis
In mainland France, the incidence of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice remains slightly below the epidemic threshold.
In Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy, calls to SOS Médecins are generally stable and below regional epidemic thresholds. Conversely, visits to emergency departments for acute gastroenteritis have been on the rise over the past two weeks, and outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis in senior care facilities are increasing.
