Public Health Surveillance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy. Epidemiological Update, April 2, 2015.

Mortality Surveillance

In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions, as in mainland France, all-cause mortality observed in recent weeks has continued to decline since week 2015-08, approaching expected values for all ages as well as for the 85+ age group.

Bronchiolitis surveillance

In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions, as in mainland France, outpatient and hospital indicators have returned to low levels, marking the end of the winter epidemic.

Surveillance of influenza-like illness

  • In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions, as in mainland France, indicators continue to decline overall.

  • In Picardy, the proportion of influenza-like illnesses among all diagnoses reported by SOS Médecins has remained below the epidemic threshold for the second consecutive week.

Surveillance of severe influenza cases

In mainland France, 1,517 severe cases of influenza have been reported this season, including 78 in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and 29 in Picardy. The case fatality rate is 15% nationally, with 224 deaths (14 in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and 6 in Picardy). The majority of cases had risk factors for complicated influenza and were infected with an influenza A virus.

Surveillance of Acute Gastroenteritis

  • In mainland France, the incidence of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice is below the epidemic threshold.

  • In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, calls to SOS Médecins, although below the regional epidemic threshold, have been at a high level since early January, and emergency room visits for gastroenteritis remain stable.

  • In Picardy, calls to SOS Médecins for gastroenteritis are in line with expectations, while visits to emergency departments remain at a low level.
