Health Monitoring in Hauts-de-France. Update as of October 20, 2023.
Key Points
Influenza
Non-epidemic phase.
Seekers of care for flu-like symptoms remain at a low and stable level at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments. The incidence rate of flu-like symptoms estimated by the Sentinelles network was slightly higher compared to week 40 (Figure 3). No influenza viruses were isolated in week 41.
Bronchiolitis
Non-epidemic phase.
In week 41, activity for bronchiolitis was stable at SOS Médecins and increasing in the region’s emergency departments amid a strike by general practitioners on Friday, October 13. The trends observed are similar to those of previous years during the same period; however, the number of hospitalizations is lower than that observed the previous year (53 hospitalizations in Week 41 vs. 110 in Week 41 of 2022).
COVID-19
In urban areas of the region, the number of medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 decreased (438 in week 41 versus 689 in week 40), as did their share of total activity (3.1% in week 41 versus 4.8% in week 40).
In hospitals, the number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 (337 in week 41 vs. 400 in week 40) as well as the number of hospitalizations following a COVID-19-related visit (115 in week 41 vs. 154 in week 40) were down. The proportion of COVID-19 visits remained stable, and the proportion of hospitalizations for COVID-19 decreased slightly. The effective reproduction number is significantly below 1 (0.89 [0.8–0.99]).
Gastroenteritis
Moderate activity.
In week 41, the number of patients seeking care for acute gastroenteritis was decreasing at SOS Médecins and stable in emergency departments. The incidence of acute diarrhea estimated by the Sentinelles network was also stable. Two types of enteric viruses were isolated in week 41: rotavirus and adenovirus.
