Key Points
Influenza
Non-epidemic phase.
Seek of medical care for flu-like symptoms remains low, but is slightly increasing at SOS Médecins and stable in emergency departments. The incidence rate of flu-like symptoms estimated by the Sentinelles network was higher than in week 39. No influenza viruses were isolated in week 40.
Bronchiolitis
Non-epidemic phase.
In week 40 of 2023, activity for bronchiolitis was stable at SOS Médecins and in the region’s emergency departments following an increase observed starting in mid-September. The trends observed are similar to those of previous years during the same period; however, the number of hospitalizations is lower than that observed the previous year (40 hospitalizations in W40-2023 vs. 74 in W40-2022).
COVID-19
In urban areas of the region, the number of medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 remained stable (689 in Week 40 versus 684 in Week 39), as did their share of total activity (4.7% in Week 39 versus 4.8% in Week 40).
In hospitals, the number of visits to emergency departments for suspected COVID-19 and the share of COVID-19 hospitalizations in total activity remained stable. The number of hospitalizations following a visit for COVID-19 increased slightly (153 in S40 versus 134 in S39; +14.2%).
Gastroenteritis
Moderate activity.
In week 40, the number of patients seeking care for gastroenteritis remained stable in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins. The incidence of acute diarrhea estimated by the Sentinelles network was also stable in week 40. Two types of enteric viruses were isolated in week 40: norovirus and rotavirus.
