Key Points

Dengue

  • The dengue epidemic has been over in the region since the end of August. During weeks S02 and S03, the number of confirmed cases rose slightly to a low level.

  • Although the dengue epidemic has ended, vigilance regarding arboviral diseases must be maintained. Seeking biological confirmation for any dengue-like syndrome remains essential.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases diagnosed in the healthcare system over the past two weeks was moderate and increased in week S03. A total of 17 P. vivax cases were reported (6 in S02 and 11 in S03), of which 6 were relapses.

  • Since early December 2024, new infections in the region have occurred primarily in gold mining areas in the municipality of Kourou and in urban/suburban areas in St. Georges.

  • Activity is on the rise at the start of the year, with 23 cases recorded during the first three weeks of January, compared to 25 in December 2024.

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • The seasonal flu epidemic continues with a sharp increase in viral circulation. It began in late December (Week 52). In contrast, RSV circulation among children under two years of age has been at a low level for the past three weeks.

  • The end of the bronchiolitis epidemic was declared last week (Week 03).

Diarrhea

  • Activity is decreasing in isolated communities (CDPS and local hospitals) and stable along the coast (data from the Cayenne and Saint Laurent du Maroni hospitals).

  • Data from the Kourou General Hospital and the sentinel physician network are not available in S01.
