Key Points

Dengue

  • Dengue activity was low in French Guiana, with 3 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, including 2 DENV-3 cases.

Chikungunya

  • Since the detection of the first confirmed case of chikungunya (S2026-04), 25 cases have been confirmed in the territory, including 12 locally acquired cases, 4 imported from Suriname, 8 under investigation, and 1 case for which information could not be obtained. Of these cases, 20 reside in the Western Coast sector, 3 on Cayenne Island, 1 in the Savanes sector, and 1 resides outside French Guiana. Additionally, an outbreak has been identified in St. Laurent and another in Mana. Finally, 3 cases have been hospitalized.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases recorded in the territory was low and declining over the past two weeks, with 8 malaria episodes recorded (5 in S08 and 3 in S07) compared to a total of 15 in S06 and S05. These 8 episodes were caused by P. vivax, including 2 relapses.

  • Since the beginning of the year, infections have occurred mainly in the forest, primarily in the Upper Maroni region, and in gold-panning areas in the Savanes sector. In total, 56 cases of malaria have been recorded since the beginning of the year, including 42 in January and 14 in February.

Acute Respiratory Infections

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • All indicators used to track the progression of influenza in French Guiana were again on the decline last week, marking the end of the epidemic in the territory.

Bronchiolitis and COVID-19

  • Activity related to bronchiolitis and SARS-CoV-2 was low throughout the territory.

Diarrhea

  • Diarrhea-related activity was low in primary care centers and local hospitals but high in the emergency departments of the three hospitals.
