Midwife clinics in middle and high schools in French Guiana [Interview].

Midwife outreach programs in schools address students’ desire to have one-on-one discussions about sexual health with professionals. This innovative program is led by a midwife appointed by the local education authority. It coordinates the efforts of professionals from the National Education System, local government, and health centers. The goal is to strengthen sexual risk prevention by informing young people about the resources available to them and the range of sexual health care services: by facilitating access to regular and emergency contraception; by encouraging early gynecological or prenatal care; and by providing an additional space for discussion regarding any questions related to emotional and sexual life. Twelve schools are participating, and more than 500 students have had a consultation with a midwife. In most cases, the young person comes to seek information by discussing their personal situation.
