Public Health Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 20, 2012

Key Highlights

  • In Week 50, activity in hospital emergency departments in Lorraine has increased, particularly in the departments of Moselle and Meuse.

  • Over the past two weeks, there has been an increase in diagnoses of influenza and influenza-like illnesses reported by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. There has also been an increase in these cases in emergency departments, though this represents a small proportion of total visits. It should be noted that in France, the influenza epidemic threshold has not yet been exceeded.

  • The number of diagnoses of bronchiolitis and bronchitis among children under 2 years of age is increasing for emergency department visits in Lorraine and for the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. Nationally, the number of visits to hospital emergency departments for infant bronchiolitis remains high but is beginning to decline.

  • In weeks 47 and 48, the number of diagnoses of diarrhea and gastroenteritis reported by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association remains high.
