Public Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 15, 2016.
Key Points
Gastroenteritis Surveillance
Gastroenteritis activity in the Grand Est region remains significantly higher than what was observed in previous years during the same period, both in emergency departments and among SOS Médecins associations.
For both data sources, the overall trend shows a slight increase in activity in week 49 (December 5–11) compared to week 48. Some isolated fluctuations at the departmental level are occasionally observed.
High activity is also observed within the Sentinelles Network, and the epidemic threshold for acute diarrhea has been exceeded for the past 4 weeks.
Bronchiolitis Surveillance
Data for week 49 remain at high levels for both data sources and are comparable to previous seasons.
Trends are opposite compared to Week 48: a steady increase for emergency departments and a marked decrease for SOS Médecins associations.
The entire mainland (except Corsica) is in an epidemic phase
An increase in RSV circulation is observed in the region.
Influenza surveillance
Influenza-related activity has doubled week-over-week since Week 47 (November 21–27) for emergency services and since Week 48 for SOS Médecins associations.
The Grand-Est region is in the pre-epidemic phase
Influenza viruses are beginning to be detected in virological data from the Nancy and Strasbourg University Hospitals. Type A viruses are predominant.
Monitoring of carbon monoxide poisoning
During weeks 48 and 49, there were 12 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning affecting 33 people.
Mortality surveillance
According to available data, mortality rates for all age groups and among people aged 75 and older observed in recent weeks are consistent with seasonal norms.
