HIV Infections and AIDS

  • HIV Surveillance

    • Participation in LaboVIH: Participation in LaboVIH has stabilized at 94%.

    • DO coverage: DO coverage increases in 2024 to reach 79%.

  • HIV Testing

    • HIV testing activity increased in 2024 and reached its highest level in the past ten years, with 106 serological tests performed per 1,000 inhabitants, according to the LaboVIH survey.

    • The overall increase in the number of HIV serology tests is mainly due to the rise in tests performed without a prescription. Use of the VIHTest or Mon Test IST kits increased significantly in 2024.

    • Women aged 15 to 49 are the group undergoing the most testing.

  • HIV Diagnosis

    • The number of new HIV diagnoses remained stable compared to 2023 and returned to levels similar to those observed before 2020.

    • The time to diagnosis was earlier for one-quarter of new HIV diagnoses.

  • HIV Incidence and Size of the Undiagnosed Population

    • In 2024, the incidence of HIV was estimated at approximately 161 (95% CI: 97–226), and the number of people living with HIV without knowing their status was estimated at approximately 476.

  • AIDS diagnosis: the number of AIDS diagnoses in the Grand Est region was estimated at 39 (95% CI: 23–54) in 2024.

Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) infection

  • The screening rate continues to rise in 2024 and stands at 47.3 per 1,000 inhabitants.

  • The diagnosis rate has remained stable in recent years. It is highest among women aged 15 to 25 and is increasing among men.

  • 69% of chlamydia cases diagnosed at regional Cegidd centers involved people under 26, and 78% involved heterosexual intercourse.

Gonococcal infection

  • The screening rate continues to rise in 2024 and stands at 51.3 per 1,000 inhabitants. Women under 50 are the most likely to be screened.

  • In 2024, men aged 26 to 49 had the highest rate of gonococcal infection diagnosis. In this group, the rate increased significantly compared to 2023.

  • Men accounted for the majority of gonococcal infections reported to Cegidd (86%).

Syphilis

  • The screening rate continues to rise this year and stands at 45.3 per 1,000 inhabitants.

  • The diagnosis rate has increased slightly this year and stands at 6.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. This increase is due to a rise among men, with those aged 25–49 having the highest diagnosis rate.

  • 59% of syphilis cases diagnosed in the region’s Cegidds involved people aged 26 to 49, and nearly 9 out of 10 cases involved men.
