Health Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Epidemiological Update as of July 4, 2012

Key Findings

  • A slight increase in the number of asthma diagnoses was observed in week 26 in emergency departments across Lorraine. Data from the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA) show high levels of grass pollen in Nancy. However, the humid weather of recent weeks may have mitigated these effects, reducing the incidence of respiratory allergy cases.

  • The summer peak in enterovirus infections, usually observed in late June/early July, is likely delayed this year. Most of these infections present as meningitis and hand-foot-and-mouth disease. They are mostly mild and resolve quickly without complications. Treatment remains symptomatic and preventive, with a focus on enhanced hygiene measures.
