Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of October 20, 2016.

Key Points

Enhanced Surveillance for Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika in France

  • Between May 1 and October 13, 2016, 10 confirmed imported cases of dengue and 18 confirmed imported cases of Zika were reported in Bas-Rhin (the only department under enhanced surveillance in the ACAL region).

Surveillance of gastroenteritis

  • The increase in gastroenteritis activity that began in mid-September continues in the Grand Est region, both in emergency departments and among SOS Médecins associations.

  • For these two data sources, the proportion of gastroenteritis cases is higher than that observed in recent years during the same period. For the SOS Médecins associations, activity is close to the peak observed in January 2016.

  • This increase is observed in all departments except the Marne department (for both emergency departments and SOS Médecins) and the Ardennes and Moselle departments (for emergency departments).

  • This high activity is also observed according to data from the Sentinelles Network.

Bronchiolitis Surveillance

  • Since the beginning of September, activity related to bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age has been increasing according to both data sources.

  • However, in week 41 (October 10–16, 2016), activity was below the regional alert level.

Mortality Surveillance

  • According to available data, mortality across all age groups and among people aged 75 and older observed in recent weeks is consistent with seasonal norms.
