Enhanced surveillance of chikungunya, dengue, and Zika in France
As surveillance ends on November 30, a summary of the 2016 season will be provided later this winter.
Surveillance of gastroenteritis
Activity related to gastroenteritis in the Grand Est region remains higher than what was observed in previous years during the same period, both for emergency departments and for SOS Médecins associations.
After a slight decrease in week 43 (October 24–30), activity related to acute gastroenteritis from these two data sources increased again in week 45.
High activity is also observed according to data from the Sentinelles Network.
Bronchiolitis Surveillance
Since early September, activity related to bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age has been increasing for both data sources.
However, in week 45 (November 7–13, 2016), the Grand Est region entered the pre-epidemic phase.
According to data from the virology laboratories at the Nancy and Strasbourg university hospitals, RSV is beginning to circulate in the region.
Influenza Surveillance
Since early September, influenza activity in the Grand Est region has been low according to both data sources.
Carbon monoxide poisoning
During weeks 44 and 45, there were 7 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning involving 16 people and resulting in one death.
Mortality surveillance
According to available data, mortality rates for all ages and among people aged 75 and older observed in recent weeks are in line with typical seasonal values.
