Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of March 9, 2017.

Key Points

Surveillance of Gastroenteritis

  • Hospital activity related to the management of gastroenteritis has fluctuated over the past several weeks but remains slightly higher than the levels observed during the same period in 2016. The increase is primarily affecting children under 5 years of age.

  • According to data from the virology laboratories at the region’s university hospitals, rotavirus is currently the most prevalent enteric virus in circulation.

  • Activity at SOS Médecins clinics has been trending downward since week 45 of 2016 but remains higher than what was observed during the same period in previous years.

  • Activity related to acute diarrhea is low for the Grand Est region within the Sentinelles Network.

Bronchiolitis Surveillance

  • Activity related to bronchiolitis in emergency departments is decreasing compared to the previous week and is comparable to what was observed last year during the same period.

  • A downward trend in bronchiolitis activity is observed among SOS Médecins associations.

  • The Grand Est region is entering the post-epidemic phase.

Influenza Surveillance

  • In week 09, the decline in influenza activity in emergency departments and SOS Médecins associations in the region continues.

  • The Grand Est region, like all other regions, is no longer in an epidemic phase.

  • Virological data also show a decrease in viral circulation and confirm the predominance of influenza A virus.

Carbon monoxide poisoning surveillance

  • During weeks 08 and 09, there were 12 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning involving 31 people.

Mortality surveillance

  • According to data available as of March 7, 2017, the episode of excess mortality observed in the Grand Est region since week 49 of 2016 is coming to an end.

Measles outbreak in Moselle

  • Since January 30, 2017, 52 cases of measles have been reported to the Grand Est Regional Health Agency (ARS). The majority of these cases are residents of Moselle.
