Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 29, 2017.
Key Points
Enhanced Surveillance for Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika
In mainland France, Aedes albopictus, known as the "tiger mosquito," is established in 33 departments. In 2017, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin were classified as Level 1 departments under the plan to prevent the spread of chikungunya and dengue in mainland France, due to the mosquito vector’s long-term presence. These departments are part of the enhanced surveillance system for chikungunya, dengue, and Zika in mainland France, which is active from May 1 to November 30 each year.
Between May 1 and June 23, 2017, one case of dengue and two cases of chikungunya were confirmed in the Grand-Est region.
Asthma Surveillance
The proportion of asthma diagnoses in emergency department activity has been decreasing since week 22, falling below the levels typically observed at this time of year.
For the SOS Médecins associations in the region, asthma-related activity is also decreasing and is below the levels typically observed at this time of year.
Allergy Monitoring
Activity related to allergies among SOS Médecins associations increased slightly in week 25 compared to the previous week.
According to the pollen and allergy bulletin, the allergy risk is very high for grass pollen in the departments of Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, and Vosges, and high in the seven other departments of the Grand Est region.
Mortality Monitoring
As of June 29, 2017, the number of deaths observed over the past few weeks falls within the usual range of fluctuations.
