Epidemiological Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Update as of October 22, 2015.
Key Findings
For the past 5 weeks (week 37), bronchiolitis activity has been low despite a slight increase observed last week (week 41). In week 42, activity returned to typical levels with 28 diagnoses made in emergency departments in Lorraine, representing 4% of cases among children under 2 years of age. For the SOS Médecins association in Meurthe-et-Moselle, activity remains low with 3 diagnoses, which accounts for 3% of activity among children under 2 years of age.
In week 42, emergency department activity related to gastroenteritis was equivalent to that typically observed at this time of year, with 101 diagnoses, or 0.9% of total diagnoses. This is not the case for the activity observed by the SOS Médecins association in Meurthe-et-Moselle. In fact, an increase in activity has been observed since week 41 and appears to be continuing in week 42, with 71 diagnoses of gastroenteritis and diarrhea, representing nearly 8% of all diagnoses.
According to available data, no unusual increase in mortality has been observed in Lorraine over the past few weeks. Since the time lag for reporting death data exceeds 7 days, data for week 42 are currently being consolidated.
