Epidemiological surveillance in the Lorraine region. Update as of June 18, 2014.
Highlights
An increase in activity at emergency departments in Meuse, Moselle, and Vosges was observed in week 24, likely due to Pentecost Monday and the nice weather.
In week 24, an increase in the number of allergy diagnoses was observed in the emergency departments of Lorraine but not for the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association.
According to data from the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk due to grass pollen is very high in the Lorraine region, as it is across the vast majority of mainland France.
Over the past two weeks, asthma-related activity has been stable and low according to both regional data sources.
In Lorraine’s emergency departments, diagnoses of heat-related conditions (hyperthermia, hyponatremia, heatstroke, and dehydration) increased significantly in week 24. Compared to 2013, the proportion observed in week 24 of 2014 remains within the expected range for periods of high temperatures. This phenomenon was much less pronounced in the activity of the SOS Médecins 54 association.
