Epidemiological Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Update as of July 30, 2015.
Key Findings
Since week 27, the number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments has remained high, with 155 weekly diagnoses in week 30, representing 1.5% of all diagnoses. Allergy-related activity at the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association is down, with 13 weekly diagnoses in week 30 (vs. 24 in week 29). This condition accounts for more than 1.5% of the association’s activity.
In week 30, the weekly number of asthma diagnoses recorded remains low: 43 diagnoses made by emergency departments and 1 by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. This condition accounts for approximately 0.5% of the activity of each of these facilities.
According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk from grass pollen is at a moderate level for the departments of Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle. This risk is low for the other two departments in Lorraine.
After a sharp increase in week 27, the number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by the Lorraine emergency services and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association is decreasing, with 49 and 8 diagnoses, respectively, in week 30. This activity accounts for less than 0.5% of the activity of Lorraine’s emergency services and 1% of the association’s activity, which is comparable to what was observed during the same period in previous years.
Following excess mortality observed during weeks 27 and 28, the numbers observed in week 29 are within expected ranges. These figures are currently being consolidated. A comprehensive assessment of mortality linked to the heatwave that swept across France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of summer.
