Epidemiological Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Update as of July 23, 2015.

Key Findings

  • Since week 27, the number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments has remained high, with 176 weekly diagnoses in week 29, representing 1.5% of all diagnoses. Allergy-related activity at the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association is also high, with 24 weekly diagnoses in week 29 (vs. 17 in week 28). This condition accounts for more than 2% of the association’s activity.

  • In week 29, the weekly number of asthma diagnoses recorded remains low: 33 diagnoses made by emergency departments and 7 by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. This condition accounts for approximately 0.5% of the activity at each of these facilities.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is low to moderate for grass pollen in the four departments of Lorraine.

  • After a sharp increase in week 27, the number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by Lorraine’s emergency services and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association is decreasing, with 62 and 19 diagnoses, respectively, in week 29. This activity accounts for less than 1% of the activity of Lorraine’s emergency services and less than 2% of the association’s activity, which remains higher than what was observed during the same period in previous years.

  • A significant increase in the number of deaths was observed during week 27 (June 29–July 5). Despite a slight decrease in mortality during week 28 (July 6–12), the observed figures remain higher than expected. Mortality data for week 28 are still pending consolidation due to reporting delays.
