Epidemiological Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Update as of August 6, 2015.

Key Findings

  • The number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments is declining, with 124 diagnoses per week in week 31, representing 1.5% of all diagnoses. The SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association’s allergy-related activity is on the rise, with 22 weekly diagnoses in week 31 (vs. 13 in week 30). This condition accounts for more than 3% of the association’s activity.

  • In week 31, the weekly number of asthma diagnoses recorded remains low: 28 diagnoses made by emergency departments and 3 by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. This condition accounts for less than 0.5% of the activity of each of these facilities.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk from grass pollen is at a low level for the four departments of Lorraine.

  • The number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by Lorraine’s emergency services and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association remains within the usual range, with 32 and 3 diagnoses, respectively, in week 31. This activity accounts for less than 0.3% of the activity of Lorraine’s emergency services and less than 0.5% of the association’s activity.

  • Following an excess mortality observed during weeks 27 and 28, the figures observed since week 29 are within expected ranges. These figures are currently being finalized. A comprehensive report on mortality linked to the heatwave that swept across France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of summer.
