Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of October 8, 2015.

Key Points

  • Since early September, the number of bronchiolitis diagnoses in children under two years of age has been low. In week 40, two cases of bronchiolitis were diagnosed by the SOS Médecins association in Mulhouse and five by the association in Strasbourg. For both associations in the region, this condition accounts for less than 5% of cases among children under two years of age. This rate is consistent with figures observed in previous years during this time of year.

  • Since week 37, the number of weekly diagnoses of gastroenteritis and diarrhea has remained between 100 and 130 for the SOS Médecins association in Bas-Rhin and between 65 and 80 for the one in Haut-Rhin. These conditions therefore account for 6.7% and 11% of the associations’ total activity in week 40. These figures fall within the fluctuations typically observed during this season, and are even slightly lower than what was observed in 2014 and 2013 for the Bas-Rhin association.

  • According to available data, no unusual increase in mortality has been observed in Alsace over the past three weeks. Since the time lag for reporting death data exceeds 7 days, data for week 40 are currently being consolidated.

  • Information on national influenza surveillance by the InVS: surveillance resumed on October 1 for the 2015–2016 winter season. All indicators are currently at baseline levels. The first national weekly influenza bulletin, issued on October 7, is available on the InVS website.
