Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of October 15, 2015.

Key Points

  • Since early September, the number of bronchiolitis diagnoses in children under two years of age has been low. In week 41, 3 cases of bronchiolitis were diagnosed by the SOS Médecins association in Mulhouse and 10 by the one in Strasbourg. This condition thus accounts for 3.4% of cases among children under two years of age for the Haut-Rhin association and 5% for the Bas-Rhin association. This activity is consistent with the values observed in previous years during this time of year.

  • Compared to week 40, the number of weekly diagnoses of gastroenteritis and diarrhea varied little in week 41. It was 132 for the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg and 76 for the one in Mulhouse. These conditions therefore account for 7.6% and 10.4% of the associations’ total activity in week 41. These figures fall within the fluctuations typically observed during this season, and are even slightly lower than what was observed in 2014 and 2013 for the Bas-Rhin association.

  • According to available data, no unusual increase in mortality has been observed in Alsace over the past few weeks. Since the time lag in reporting death data exceeds 7 days, the data for week 41 is currently being consolidated.
