Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of May 28, 2015.
Key Findings
The SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg has recorded an increase in the weekly number of allergy diagnoses since Week 17. Thus, in Week 21 (May 18–24), approximately 50 diagnoses were made, representing nearly 4% of all coded diagnoses. No such trend is observed for the SOS Médecins association in Mulhouse, where the weekly number has been decreasing since week 17, reaching approximately 10 diagnoses in week 21 (about 2.5% of activity). However, these fluctuations are comparable to what was observed in previous years during the same period.
Asthma activity among the region’s SOS Médecins associations is comparable to what is typically observed at this time of year. These diagnoses account for less than 1% of the coded diagnoses at the Strasbourg association and just over 2% of the coded diagnoses at the Mulhouse association.
According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is high in both departments of Alsace for grass pollen.
The number of heat-related diagnoses is low for both associations in the region.
The associations’ activity related to gastroenteritis has been steadily decreasing since mid-April (week 15). In week 21, the approximately 100 diagnoses made by the Strasbourg association accounted for 7% of total diagnoses, and the 50 diagnoses from the Mulhouse association accounted for 8% of total diagnoses.
