Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of March 6, 2014.
Key Developments
Nationwide, influenza activity appears to be leveling off, with a decline in the incidence rate reported by the Unified Influenza Network. Data from the coming weeks will help confirm this trend.
In the Alsace region, this trend is reflected in data from local SOS Médecins associations, whereas, conversely, the regional incidence rate from the Unified Influenza Network continued to rise in Week 9.
Nationally and regionally, the influenza A virus remains dominant.
Nationally, the latest emergency department activity data for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age indicate the end of the epidemic. Regionally, this trend is observed by the SOS Médecins association in Mulhouse, whereas, conversely, a slight increase in activity for this condition was observed by the association in Strasbourg.
Nationally, emergency department activity for gastroenteritis is decreasing.
In Alsace, activity at SOS Médecins remains stable for gastroenteritis and diarrhea. Rotavirus remains the most commonly isolated virus among enteric viruses identified at the HUS laboratory.
