Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of March 19, 2015.
Key Highlights
As observed at the national level, the end of the flu season is near. Flu activity among SOS Médecins associations in the region continues to decline. In Week 11, the 73 diagnoses of influenza or influenza-like illness accounted for 5% of total diagnoses made by SOS Médecins Strasbourg, and the 66 diagnoses made by the Mulhouse association accounted for 10% of total diagnoses.
There has been a decrease in reports of severe flu cases hospitalized in intensive care (2 additional cases reported since last week). The total number is 54 cases, including 8 deaths. Only 1 case remains hospitalized in intensive care. The epidemiological characteristics of these severe cases remain unchanged (see p. 4).
All-cause mortality appears to be decreasing; these data will be consolidated in the coming weeks.
Bronchiolitis activity is low for both associations and remains comparable to what was observed in previous years during the same period.
The number of diagnoses of acute gastroenteritis and diarrhea fluctuates within the ranges typically observed during this period. In week 11, these diagnoses accounted for 12% of all diagnoses made by the Strasbourg association and 10% of all diagnoses made by the Mulhouse association.
