Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of June 11, 2015.
Key Findings
The upward trend in the weekly number of allergy diagnoses recorded by the SOS Médecins Strasbourg association since week 17 appears to have stopped in week 23. For this first week of June, 56 diagnoses were made, representing nearly 4% of the total coded diagnoses. No such trend is observed for the SOS Médecins Mulhouse association, which recorded a single spike in Week 22 (31 diagnoses, or 4.4% of all diagnoses). These fluctuations are comparable to those observed in previous years during the same period.
SOS Médecins Strasbourg recorded an increase in the number of asthma diagnoses in week 22 (26 diagnoses, or 1.7% of coded diagnoses), and the SOS Mulhouse association in week 23 (20 diagnoses, or 2.9%). These increases are isolated, and the associations’ activity regarding these conditions is comparable to what was observed in previous years during the same period
According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is very high in both departments of Alsace for grass pollen.
An increase in the number of heat-related diagnoses was recorded for both associations in week 23, due to the observed temperatures. However, it remains lower than what was recorded in 2014 and 2013.
The number of cases reported by the associations related to gastroenteritis has been steadily decreasing since mid-April (week 15). In week 23, the 76 diagnoses made by the Strasbourg association accounted for 6% of the total diagnoses, and the 59 diagnoses by the Mulhouse association accounted for 8% of the total diagnoses.
