Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of July 9, 2015.

Key Points

  • Since last week’s update, only 3 new cases of measles have been reported to the Alsace Regional Health Agency (ARS). Although the outbreak appears to be losing intensity, the virus continues to circulate, and vigilance as well as reminders of preventive measures must be maintained to prevent the emergence of further outbreaks. To date, no outbreaks linked to this epidemic have emerged in any other French region.

  • Last week (week 27), the weekly number of allergy diagnoses remained stable for the two SOS Médecins associations in the region. It accounted for 2.5% of activity for the Strasbourg association (30 diagnoses) and 2.3% for the Mulhouse association (15 diagnoses).

  • Asthma-related activity for both SOS Médecins associations remains low, accounting for less than 2% of each association’s activity.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is moderate for grass pollen in both departments of Alsace.

  • In week 27, the number of weekly diagnoses of heat-related conditions increased significantly for both associations. For the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg, 104 diagnoses of dehydration and heatstroke were made (representing 7.6% of total diagnoses). For the Mulhouse association, 29 diagnoses were made, representing 4.5% of the total diagnoses.

  • An update on the monitoring of health indicators following the activation of Level 3—heat wave alert—of the 2015 National Heat Wave Plan is provided on page 6.
