Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of July 2, 2015.

Highlights

  • In Week 26, the weekly number of allergy diagnoses was 31 by the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg and 15 by the one in Mulhouse, representing approximately 2% of the total diagnoses by both associations. The fluctuations observed are comparable to those of previous years during the same period.

  • Last week, asthma-related activity for both SOS Médecins associations remained low, accounting for less than 2% of each association’s activity.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is moderate for grass pollen in both departments of Alsace.

  • In week 26, the number of weekly diagnoses of heat-related conditions was very low for the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg, with only one diagnosis of dehydration. For the Mulhouse association, these conditions accounted for nearly 1% of the total diagnoses recorded that week, which remains within the usual fluctuations for the summer period.

  • As of June 29, 2015, the measles outbreak appears to be losing intensity, with only 5 additional cases since the previous update (June 22). Its spread remains largely confined to the northern half of the Haut-Rhin department, but new cases residing south of the Mulhouse urban community were reported last week (week 26). Vigilance and a reminder of preventive measures must be maintained to prevent the emergence of further outbreaks. The general population of Alsace has so far been only minimally affected. To date, no outbreaks linked to this epidemic have emerged in any other French region.
