Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of December 31, 2015.
Key Findings
Activity related to influenza and influenza-like illnesses has increased compared to the previous week in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins clinics. The number of diagnoses is 13 and 78, respectively, representing 0.29% and 2.16% of the total number of diagnoses. Despite this increase in diagnoses in the region, influenza activity remains low. This is also the case in mainland France and across Europe.
Due to the end-of-year holidays, virological data will not be available for week 52 and will be updated in week 1 of 2016.
The bronchiolitis epidemic among children under two years of age continues in Alsace in week 52. Emergency departments and doctors from the SOS Médecins associations made 116 and 69 diagnoses of bronchiolitis, respectively. The hospitalization rate for bronchiolitis in emergency departments is 28%. This condition accounts for 18.3% of emergency department activity among children under two years of age, an increase compared to week 51.
In week 52, the number of weekly diagnoses of gastroenteritis is on the rise, both in emergency departments and among SOS Médecins physicians. A total of 141 and 349 diagnoses were made, respectively, in the emergency departments of the OSCOUR® network and by SOS Médecins physicians. For SOS Médecins, activity related to gastroenteritis remains lower than that observed during the same period in the two previous seasons.
Analysis of carbon monoxide poisoning outbreaks is not available for week 52 and will resume in week 1 of 2016.
