Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of August 6, 2015.
Key Facts
As of August 6, 2015, 230 cases of measles had been reported to the Alsace Regional Health Agency (ARS). The low number and spacing of cases seem to indicate the end of the outbreak. This episode will be closed on August 8, 2015, if no further cases occur by then.
Activity at the SOS Médecins allergy clinics is low and remains within the fluctuations typically observed at this time of year. In week 31, the proportion of activity related to allergies was 2% for SOS Médecins Strasbourg and 2.5% for SOS Médecins Mulhouse (unchanged from week 30).
Asthma-related activity at both SOS Médecins associations remains low. The number of recorded diagnoses (4 for Strasbourg and 3 for Mulhouse) accounted for 0.4% and 0.6%, respectively, of each association’s total activity.
According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk from pollen is low in both departments of Alsace.
In week 31, the number of weekly diagnoses of heat-related conditions decreased sharply compared to week 30 for both SOS Médecins associations. Thus, 1 diagnosis of dehydration was recorded for the SOS Médecins Strasbourg association (representing 0.1% of total diagnoses) and 1 diagnosis of heatstroke for the Mulhouse association (representing 0.6% of total diagnoses).
Following an excess mortality observed during weeks 27 and 28, the figures observed since week 29 are within expected ranges. These figures are currently being finalized. A comprehensive report on mortality related to the heatwave that swept across France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of summer.
