Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of August 13, 2015.

Key Facts

  • Since July 18, 2015, no further cases of measles have been reported to the Alsace Regional Health Agency (ARS). In total, this outbreak involved 230 cases of measles in Alsace and 3 cases in Germany. This episode was closed on August 8, 2015.

  • Activity at the SOS Médecins allergy clinics is low and remains within the fluctuations typically observed at this time of year. In week 32, allergy-related activity accounted for 2% of cases at SOS Médecins Strasbourg and 1.5% at SOS Médecins Mulhouse.

  • Asthma-related activity at both SOS Médecins associations remains low. The number of recorded diagnoses (4 for Strasbourg and 3 for Mulhouse) accounted for 0.4% and 0.6%, respectively, of each association’s activity (unchanged from Week 31).

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is very low for grass and nettle pollens in both departments of Alsace.

  • In week 32, the number of weekly diagnoses of heat-related conditions increased compared to week 31, but remained lower than during the July heatwave, for both SOS Médecins associations. Thus, 16 diagnoses were recorded for the SOS Médecins Strasbourg association (representing 1.3% of total diagnoses) and 5 diagnoses for the Mulhouse association (representing 1% of total diagnoses).

  • Following an excess mortality observed during weeks 27 and 28, the figures observed since week 29 are within expected ranges. These figures are currently being finalized. A comprehensive report on mortality related to the heatwave that swept across France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of summer.
